Prayers for Haiti

One week ago today an earthquake hit the country of Haiti with a magnitude of 7.0.   More than 3 million people have been affected by the earthquake and it’s been estimated that more than 100,000 people may have died.

I’ve been keeping up to date on this terrible disaster since last week and been saddened by some of the stories I’ve been reading.  One of the saddest things about this terrible situation is the number of children who’ve become orphaned.  Alot of children lost their parents in the earthquake.  What will happen to them?

I was on the treadmill in the gym today at work and I was watching one story on television about dozens of children from Haiti who arrived in Pittsburgh, PA.  The children are from an orphanage that was damaged in the quake.  The children’s adoption cases were already in process before the earthquake occurred.

Orphans from quake-ravaged Haiti arrive in U.S.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (CNN) — More than 50 Haitian children — rescued from an orphanage damaged by last week’s earthquake –arrived Tuesday in Pennsylvania, most of them headed eventually to adoptive homes.

Gov. Edward Rendell, who traveled to Haiti to accompany the orphans back to his state, said the 53 children from the Bresma Orphanage in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince were flown to Florida on an Air Force C-17 transport plane. The group was then transferred to another plane to fly to Pittsburgh International Airport, he said at a news conference at the airport.

Another child is to arrive in Pittsburgh late Tuesday or Wednesday, Rendell said. Ali McMutrie, a Pittsburgh-area woman who ran the orphanage with her sister, Jamie, said her sister will accompany the 54th orphan.

“The children are incredible. They’re doing so great. I was more upset at the airplane ride than any of them,” said McMutrie, who also was at the briefing.

Most of the children’s adoption cases were at the end of the bureaucratic process before the 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck.

According to Rendell, adoption cases are under way for 47 of the children. Of these, 40 will be U.S. adoptions, four children will go to Spain and three to Canada. Adoptive parents will be sought for the remaining seven children.

I was happy to read that these children will have a home and family to look forward to.

My prayers go out to the people of Haiti and all the volunteers.

Good googly goo!!!!!! You’ve heard of the Duggars. You know the family from Arkansas who have 18 children and are featured in the TLC series 18 Kids and Counting.

Well they’ve just announced that mom Michelle Duggar is expecting her 19th child. Yes I said 19th child.  I guess TLC will have to change the name of the show to 19 Kids and Counting.

Duggars Expecting Their 19th Child!

By Alicia Dennis

Make way for more Duggars!

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar of Tonitown, Ark., who have 18 children and one grandchild on the way, are expecting a new addition to their household – baby No. 19 will arrive in the spring.

“We are so thrilled,” says Michelle, 42. “We just couldn’t believe it is happening.” Jim Bob, 44, agrees: “This never gets old. We are so grateful for each child. We are looking forward to our first grand baby and our 19th child.”

Oldest son Joshua, 21 and his wife Anna, 21, are expecting daughter Mackynzie Renée next month, so she will be older than her new aunt or uncle.

“I think it is going to be awesome, it is going to be great,” says Josh about the news that his parents are expecting. “We have been looking forward to the arrival of my little girl and to now get to celebrate for my parents, it’s a wonderful thing.”

I know that the Duggars have a right to have as many children as they want, they’re not living on the taxpayer’s expense and they live debt free in a house they built but isn’t 19 children a bit much? I can’t imagine what Michelle Duggar’s body is going through having all those children. Yes, having a family this large was the thing to do back in the old days but this is the 21st century.  Who needs to have 19 kids in these modern times?  I know I would go crazy living in a house with that many kids.  Peace and quiet wouldn’t exist anymore.

Anyway I wish them the best of luck.

Travis and Shawn, meet Desmond

Back in March I blogged about Travis Henry keeping up with former NBA player Shawn Kemp in the baby daddy department.  Well fellas, meet your brother in arms. Twenty nine year old Desmond Hatchett is the father of (hold the phone now!!!!) 21 children. Yes I said 21 C_H_I_L_D_R_E_N.   Shawn, Travis and Desmond have enough kids to start their own school.

Desmond can’t afford to support all of his kids cause he works a minimum wage job.  But somehow he had the time and energy to stick Lil Desmond into any woman that has a pulse.

Tennessee man tells child support court he has 21 children

Barbara Thompson

As if Octomom wasn’t bad enough, a Tennessee man, 29 year old Desmond Hatchett has now fathered at least 21 children he can’t support. Hatchett was in child support court again last week. His name appeared on the dockett 11 times in one day, representing 15 of his children.

Hatchett says he wasn’t out to set a record. He says he never intended to have this many children, “It just happened.” He fathered the children by at least 11 different women and he claims all of the mothers knew about his large family. The children range in age from newborn to 11 years old.

The article also states that he had 4 children in one year twice.  Dude was super busy.   But you know what?  Not only is he an idiot, the women he slept with are idiots too. To sleep with a man like this, knowing about his brood says alot about them.  And not even caring about whether he could be a disease carrier doesn’t seem to matter to them.  Black folks are always talking about how the high rate of HIV/AIDS is decimating the black community but is anyone talking about behavior?  Like the behavior of folks like Desmond and his baby mamas.  No one wants to talk about the behavior factor. But some black folks have no problem talking about a mad white scientist creating HIV/AIDS in order to decimate the black community.

Anyway Daddy Hatchett needs to slow his roll and learn how to use a condom or get a vasectomy like I recommended for Travis Henry.

Sunday school teacher arrested for murder

A Sunday school teacher, Melissa Huckaby, has been arrested and charged with the kidnapping and murder of eight year old Sandra Cantu from Tracy, California.

Twenty eight year old Melissa Huckaby, the granddaughter of a pastor is the mother of a playmate of Sandra’s.  What in the hell caused her to murder a little girl?  Some folks are shocked that a mom has been arrested for Sandra’s murder.  These are dangerous times out here and you have to be very careful about who your children are with.

A Sunday school teacher was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and killing her daughter’s 8-year-old playmate, Sandra Cantu of Tracy, Calif., after admitting to police that she owned the suitcase in which Sandra’s body was found, authorities said Saturday.

Melissa Chantel Huckaby, 28, the granddaughter of a pastor, was taken into custody late Friday night, about five hours after she drove herself to a police station for questioning, said Sgt. Tony Sheneman of the Tracy Police Department.

“I couldn’t begin to even theorize what her motive is,” Sheneman said at a news conference that was streamed live on the Internet. “The outcome alone is beyond explanation.”

Sandra’s mother, Maria Chavez, 41, was grief-stricken and in shock, said Angie Chavez, Sandra’s aunt.

“How could another mother do this to another child?” she said Maria Chavez had asked her.

A break in the investigation into Sandra’s death came after Huckaby gave an interview Friday to the Tracy Press, telling the newspaper that she had owned a large, black, rolling suitcase that she said was stolen March 27, the same day Sandra disappeared.

Huckaby’s description of her suitcase resembled the one that contained Sandra’s body, the newspaper reported.

Last Monday, farmworkers discovered the suitcase at a dairy farm irrigation pond about 2 1/2 miles north of the girl’s home. Inside, investigators found the dead child dressed in the same clothes she was last seen wearing — a pink “Hello Kitty” T-shirt, black leggings and “Hannah Montana” flip-flops.

Huckaby’s interview with the local newspaper was inconsistent with what she had told investigators earlier, police said Saturday.

After reading the published report, investigators asked Huckaby to come to the police station for more questioning Friday night.

“She revealed enough information to us that we had probable cause to arrest her,” Sheneman said Saturday. “She admitted yesterday and to the Tracy Press that the suitcase was hers.”

Huckaby told the Tracy Press that she had packed the suitcase with supplies to spruce up her church classroom. But she said she forgot it, leaving it outside on her driveway at the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park where she lived.

RIP Sandra.

What’s going on?

There’s been a slew of mass murders going on since early March. According to the Seattle PI over 45 people have been murdered in mass shootings including children, policemen and the elderly. The latest murders occurred in Graham, Washington where a father murdered his five children after he found out his wife was going to leave him.

Police: Dad killed kids because wife was leaving him

GRAHAM — A man who fatally shot his five children and killed himself had just discovered his wife was leaving him for another man, authorities said Sunday.

The children, aged 7 to 16, were found shot to death Saturday in the family’s mobile home in Graham, 15 miles southeast of Tacoma. The father, James Harrison, was found earlier in the day, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot behind the wheel of his idling car 18 miles away in Auburn, about 30 miles south of Seattle.

Why couldn’t this fool just take his own life and leave his children out of it?

In last month, mass shootings claim 53 lives

A string of shootings in the U.S. in the last month alone has claimed the lives of 53 people:

-MARCH 10, SAMSON, Ala. – A gunman kills 10 people and commits suicide in a rampage that spanned two dozen miles across the southern Alabama countryside. Police say Michael McLendon had struggled to keep a job and left behind lists of employers and co-workers he believed had wronged him.

-MARCH 22, OAKLAND, Calif. – A man pulled over in a routine traffic stop fatally shoots two officers and then kills two more in a gunfight in which the suspect was also killed. Relatives say Lovelle Mixon, 26, had been frustrated about not finding work and feared returning to jail.

-MARCH 29, SANTA CLARA, Calif. – A man shoots and kills his two children and three other relatives, then kills himself at a family housewarming party in an upscale neighborhood. Investigators don’t yet know the motive of Devan Kalathat, a 42-year-old engineer at Yahoo.

-MARCH 29, CARTHAGE, N.C. – A man opens fire in a nursing home and kills seven elderly residents and a nurse who cared for them. Investigators say Robert Stewart, 45, apparently had targeted an estranged wife, a nurse’s assistant who escaped by hiding in a bathroom.

-APRIL 3, BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – A gunman bursts into an immigrant center and kills 13 people before killing himself. Police say Jiverly Wong, a 41-year-old Vietnamese immigrant, was apparently upset about losing his job and about people picking on him for his limited English.

-APRIL 4, PITTSBURGH – A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest opens fire on officers responding to a domestic disturbance call, killing three of them. Police say Richard Poplawski, 23, had been upset about losing his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

-APRIL 4, GRAHAM, Wash. – A man fatally shoots his five children in their mobile home and then takes his own life in his car miles away. Relatives identified the father as James Harrison. A motive was not yet known.

Anger towards others and lack of employment seem to be two of the main reasons for these murders. Looks like this country could be in for a long year if this keeps up. With unemployment reaching 8.5%, you’re looking at alot of folks taking their anger out on others including their own families.

Shawn Kemp meet Travis Henry

Lord have mercy.  More baby daddy drama in pro sports.  You now how much I hate that term but it fits perfectly for this latest athlete. Most sports fans know about former NBA player Shawn Kemp and how he has spread his seed amongst many women.  The latest to make similar news is former NFL running back Travis Henry. Dude has nine chilllin. Yeah I said nine chillinNine chillin by nine different women!!!!

With Nine Mouths to Feed, Travis Henry Says He’s Broke

ATLANTA — Travis Henry was rattling off his children’s ages, which range from 3 to 11. He paused and took a breath before finishing.

This was no simple task. Henry, 30, a former N.F.L. running back who played for three teams from 2001 to 2007, has nine children — each by a different mother, some born as closely as a few months apart.

Reports of Henry’s prolific procreating, generated by child-support disputes, have highlighted how futile the N.F.L.’s attempts can be at educating its players about making wise choices. The disputes have even eclipsed the attention he received after he was indicted on charges of cocaine trafficking.

“They’ve got my blood; I’ve got to deal with it,” Henry said of fiscal responsibilities to his children. He spoke by telephone from his Denver residence, where he was under house arrest until recently for the drug matter.

Henry had just returned from Atlanta, where a judge showed little sympathy for his predicament during a hearing and declined to lower monthly payments from $3,000 for a 4-year-old son.

Three days after the telephone interview, he was jailed for falling $16,600 behind on support for a youngster in Frostproof, Fla., his hometown.

“I love all my kids,” he said in the interview, but asserted he could not afford the designated amounts, estimated at $170,000 a year by Randy Kessler, his Atlanta lawyer. Kessler said Henry was virtually broke.

“I’ve lost everything in this mess I’ve gotten myself into,” Henry said.

His eldest child was conceived while Henry was in high school, before he was named Mr. Florida Football and a Parade All-American. The child was unplanned as were all but one of his offspring, he said.

Some of the women claimed they were using birth control and it’s obvious they lied. But he should have still wrapped it up. Why is it that some men refuse to use a condom? Especially with HIV/AIDS doing serious damage in the black community. But right now he has nine mouths to feed that’s costing him $170,000 a year.

If this man doesn’t want anymore children added to his current lineup maybe a vasectomy is the answer. Especially since he and his fiancee have decided not to have children.  Speaking of fiancee, who is this woman who hooks up with a man with nine children by nine different women, who was jailed for falling behind on his child support, violated the NFL’s substance abuse policy and last year was arrested for cocaine drug trafficking. Yes, I know no one is perfect but isn’t this a bit much 😦
