Bye Felicia

I was wondering where the phrase “Bye Felicia” came from.  Now I know.  It originated from the movie Friday starring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker.  I saw the movie but that was so long ago. I need to check it out again.

Twenty years ago this month, Friday came out. Unsurprisingly, Ice Cube is really proud of that fact. Last night, he talked about the anniversary on Conan, wistfully remembering a certain quote that has since swept the nation. He also mentioned that for alliterative reasons, the line started out as “Farewell, Felicia.” Then, to be more casual, it was rewritten to “bye, Belicia,” but then they remembered that wasn’t the character’s name, and “bye, Felicia” was born! Hollywood’s crazy.
