This weekend I was reading all sorts of rumors about Governor Sarah Palin. There were rumors that she’s really the grandmother of Trig Palin, not the mother. And I was reading rumors of her daughter Bristol either being the mother of Trig or that’s she currently pregnant. The picture below is of Bristol holding Trig.
It’s been officially announced today that Governor Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol is indeed five months pregnant.
Palin says 17-year-old daughter is pregnant

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — John McCain’s running mate Sarah Palin said Monday that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant, an announcement aimed at rebutting Internet rumors that Palin’s youngest son, born in April, was actually her daughter’s.
A statement released by the campaign said that Bristol Palin will keep her baby and marry the child’s father. Bristol Palin is five months pregnant, and the baby is due in late December.
“Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents,” Sarah and Todd Palin said in the brief statement.
“Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family,” they added.
Sarah Palin’s son Trig was born in April with Down syndrome. Internet bloggers have been suggesting that the child was actually born to Bristol Palin but that her mother, the Alaska governor, claimed to be the mother.
McCain adviser Mark Salter said the campaign announced the daughter’s pregnancy to rebut those rumors.
Senior McCain advisers said the Arizona senator and his top aides had known about Bristol’s pregnancy before offering Palin the No. 2 spot on the GOP ticket.
“Senator McCain’s view is this is a private family matter. As parents, (the Palins) love their daughter unconditionally and are going to support their daughter,” said McCain spokesman Steve Schmidt.
Said Schmidt: “Life happens.”
I wish Bristol, her future husband Levi and their baby the best. I have always believed that all women should have a choice when it comes to pregnancy. And Bristol has made her decision. I’ve always had problems with the Christian Right wanting to make the decision to own the wombs of every woman in this country, yet not giving a damn about those children after they’re born.
Anyway I have been reading comments all over the net about Democrats, liberals, progressives, etc. making comments about Bristol’s pregnancy. The more conservative commenters have criticized their more liberal counterparts for making a big deal about the Palin pregnancy. And that they should leave Bristol Palin alone. You know damn well if Chelsea Clinton had gotten pregnant while still a teenager, conservatives would have put her and the Clinton family on blast. And we would still be hearing about it this year, especially during the Democratic primary. Have we forgotten the nasty comments coming from conservatives, including Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain, about Chelsea’s looks while her dad was in the White House?
The joke did appear in McCain’s hometown paper, the Arizona Republic, and the Associated Press did report the joke in full, so everyone in the press had access to McCain’s words. But by censoring themselves, the Post, the Times and others helped McCain deflect flak and preserved his status as a Republican presidential contender.
Salon feels its readers deserve the unadulterated truth. Though no tape of McCain’s quip has yet emerged, this is what he reportedly said:
“Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?
Because her father is Janet Reno.”
The joke may be crude, but it pales in comparison with the published details surrounding the presidential sex scandal. McCain’s two-liner conveys some interesting insights into what he considers humorous (lesbianism, a young woman’s physical appearance), particularly since it was delivered to a Republican crowd. Remember, this is the party that champions pro-family values.
And god forbid if Sasha and Malia Obama, if older, were pregnant, conservatives and the corporate owned mainstream media would be spinning it 24/7, citing how typical this is in the black community and what kind of parents are Michelle and Barack to let their daughters run wild and loose.
It’s not Bristol’s fault that she’s been dragged into the limelight cause her mom has been chosen as the Republican VP nominee. But I don’t want to hear the hypocrisy coming from the right about how cruel and mean Democrats and liberals are while Republicans, especially right wing conservatives, have shown their ugly side plenty of times. As we have seen ugly comments about someone’s children can come from both sides of the political fence.
